18th July 2010 was a very special day. It was a day to shower blessings to people with special needs. Even the sky, also rhymed in tune with us, giving showers of blessings intermittently.
APSN - Association for persons with special needs, held their fund raising carnival in the hope of raising S$50,000.00 for their centre. This amount is for the running of the training program and materials for the clients(students) in APSN. Do browse through their website for more information.

Located at 29, Jalan Tembusu, off Haig Road near Katong Shopping Centre, the Centre houses one of the largest non-commercial Hydroponic Greenhouses. These greenhouses are used for the production of leafy vegetables for sale in the centre.

Philip, the event coordinator was briefing the volunteers on the details of the fund raising carnival.

A bird's eye view of the Carnival.

Words of encouragement and appreciations given by the Guest of Honour...

One of the performances put by various groups...

Kohinoor Bhangra Troupe performing a traditional dance...

A contemporary dance performance by Assumption English School....

Guzheng performance by APSN Katong School....

A love story - performed by Tanjong Pagar Community Club's Cantonese Opera Group.

Last but not least, participants were charmed and serenaded by the New Horizon Music Society with their song items.

Besides performances, there were a total of 40 stalls at the carnival. Games and food stalls dominated the carnival. Some other interesting stalls include a cookie collage put up by the Centre. This collage has also set a National Record which will be enter into the Singapore Book of Records.

There was a stall put up by Cantonese Opera Group from Tanjong Pagar Community Club - for a mere amount, you could dress up like an opera singer. What a memorable and unique experience!
Selling of plants grown by the students from the Centre was the duty of the task force of people with green fingers! They managed to sell all the plants - this certainly has brought a big smile on their faces....

William, the Head of APSN - Centre for Adults was seen here browsing through the stalls, giving full support to them as well.

Undaunted by the rain, the crowd slowly streaming in....

The Carnival managed to raise a handsome sum of S$24,000.00. Though the amount raised fall short of their S$50,000.00 target, the enthusiasm and cohesiveness shown by the trainers and clients(students) were sky high and highly commendable.
It is my sincere wish that the donations from public will keep rolling in. These funds will definitely go a long way to help equipping the clients with essential skills, training and preparing them for a life-long employment thereby developing their potential to the fullest so that they can lead a dignified, fulfilling and independent live, capable of integrating themselves in and contributing to the society.
For those who would like to donate to the Centre, you may call Mr. Philip Li for more details.
